Policies

Attendance

In order for a student to progress, regular attendance is needed and expected.  If a student knows in advance that he or she will not be able to attend class, he or she should notify the staff.

Too many absences from classes and/or rehearsals could result in removal from competitive routines. Competitive students typically train Monday-Thursday from 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. and anytime Saturday between 9:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. However, we reserve the right to schedule on Fridays and Sundays as needed as well as 4:00 weekday start times for those who can make it with their school schedule. These training hours include both classes and rehearsals.

Rehearsal schedules are posted on our website. If you know you are unavailable, pre-sign out in advance so that rehearsals may be scheduled accordingly. This is done by filling out the SIGN OUT form, located on the Schedule page beneath the calendar, with the reason, dates, and times you are requesting to be signed out. Attendance is mandatory the two weeks prior to performances including but not limited to competitions and the spring show. At least one will be a full dress rehearsal. All dress rehearsals are mandatory.

Students are considered late at the 5-minute mark after Essentials Dance Company's published start time. Official timepiece is the iPhone. Two tardies are documented without consequence. The 3rd and any tardy thereafter will result in an incomplete for that class/rehearsal session. Incomplete classes/rehearsals must be made up via make-up class or private lessons.

If inclement weather causes cancellations, tuition will not be adjusted, nor will classes be made up.  Essentials Dance Company follows the Shelby County Schools inclement weather policy. If Shelby County schools are closed due to inclement weather then classes are canceled for that day.

Shelby County schools are not followed regarding closings due to the Coronavirus pandemic. For information regarding classes during this time check the rehearsals page or the band app and contact EDC with any questions, comments, or concerns.

For more information regarding attendance requirements, excused/unexcused absences, and our Add/Drop policies please refer to your handbook and contact us with any questions.
