In order for a student to progress, regular attendance is needed and expected. If a student knows in advance that he or she will not be able to attend class, he or she should notify the staff.
Too many absences from classes and/or rehearsals could result in removal from competitive routines. Competitive students typically train Monday-Thursday from 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. and anytime Saturday between 9:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. However, we reserve the right to schedule on Fridays and Sundays as needed as well as 4:00 weekday start times for those who can make it with their school schedule. These training hours include both classes and rehearsals.
Rehearsal schedules are posted on our website. If you know you are unavailable, pre-sign out in advance so that rehearsals may be scheduled accordingly. This is done by filling out the SIGN OUT form, located on the Schedule page beneath the calendar, with the reason, dates, and times you are requesting to be signed out. Attendance is mandatory the two weeks prior to performances including but not limited to competitions and the spring show. At least one will be a full dress rehearsal. All dress rehearsals are mandatory.
Students are considered late at the 5-minute mark after Essentials Dance Company's published start time. Official timepiece is the iPhone. Two tardies are documented without consequence. The 3rd and any tardy thereafter will result in an incomplete for that class/rehearsal session. Incomplete classes/rehearsals must be made up via make-up class or private lessons.
If inclement weather causes cancellations, tuition will not be adjusted, nor will classes be made up. Essentials Dance Company follows the Shelby County Schools inclement weather policy. If Shelby County schools are closed due to inclement weather then classes are canceled for that day.
Shelby County schools are not followed regarding closings due to the Coronavirus pandemic. For information regarding classes during this time check the rehearsals page or the band app and contact EDC with any questions, comments, or concerns.
For more information regarding attendance requirements, excused/unexcused absences, and our Add/Drop policies please refer to your handbook and contact us with any questions.
No food or gum chewing is allowed in class. Water is the only drink allowed during class.
Students should enter the dance studio completely dressed in required attire with shoes on, ready for class.
Always ask permission before checking your phone during breaks.
Students must be respectful to both teachers and peers and should maintain a good attitude throughout each class and rehearsal.
Please do not move or touch plants or trees.
Please do not harm or end the life of any insect on-premises. If you would like an insect removed for you please calmly contact an EDC teacher or Coach Becca.
EDC patrons including but not limited to students, parents, siblings, relatives, and friends may not touch any EDC or FII equipment without permission at any time.
All belongings should be sanitized prior to entering the premises and placed in the cubbies by the restroom.
EDC is home to a very unique studio culture that has helped the studio earn the title of the Mid- South’s only pre-professional dance company. Dancers should strive to possess the following qualities as a member of the competitive team:
Flexibility and strength in mind, body, and spirit
Support of teammates
Ability to handle constructive criticism with grace
Respect of teachers and students
Ability to identify corrections
Ability to give corrections in a kind, respectful manner
Awareness of what is going on at all times
Desire to better yourself
Communication is very important to us at EDC. Each family will have access to their account through essentialsdancecompany.com
Please check it regularly for important updates, information, and our highly anticipated newsletters. If you have questions that are not answered in your handbook and/or newsletter, and you need to contact Ms. Scarlet directly, you can email her at: email@example.com. Our band app and our Facebook page and Instagram also contain a wealth of information.
Seasonal newsletters will now be posted on our website. The newsletter features important information that both dancers and parents are expected to know including important dates and opportunities. These newsletters will serve as a major form of communicating important information to all competitive parents.
The newsletters will also contain assignments for the dancers, which must be completed by the due date stated in the newsletter. Failure to complete a newsletter assignment correctly by the due date may result in an additional assignment, a required private lesson at the dancer’s expense, removal from a part of a routine, and/or any other consequence at the discretion of the EDC staff. In addition, the dancer will still be required to complete the missed assignment.
